About Me and some Client Feedback and Comments
I obtained my Certificate in Counselling at Exeter University in 1997 and then went on to obtain an RSA Advanced Diploma in Counselling and Groupwork Skills at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in 1998 and a Feedback Communications Advanced Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling at the Hospital in 1999. In 2012 I was awarded a Post-Graduate Certificate in Counselling Supervision by the University of Gloucester.
I am Registered with the Counselling Directory. I am trained to work with survivors of abuse. I believe in an integrative approach when working with my clients as I am also trained in and use other approaches where appropriate, these include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), transactional analysis (TA), couples counselling, group and family therapy.
I am an Accredited Member of the National Counselling Society MNCS (Acc) This professional body ensures a strict code of ethics and the highest standards of practice and confidentiality. I abide by their code of ethics and good practice.
I have worked as a trainer, coach and facilitator for more than twenty years. Coaching clients have brought topics including business development needs, relationship problems, management skills, presentation skills, career choices and planning.
Since qualifying as a Counsellor I have worked in private practice and in a voluntary capacity for the Charity 'Home Start'. I was the lead counsellor with the Exeter Community Initiative helping to provide a counselling service for their childrens centres for more than three years. My counselling clients have come with many different issues including relationship difficulties, abuse, stress, anxiety, low self-esteem and depression.
My past years experience working in private practice and the voluntary sector has taught me the importance of approaching each client as a unique individual.
